In the Eurydice's own words "the term ‘private education’ is often used to express the opposite of ‘state education’. Yet in Europe it assumes a very wide range of practical forms. In order that this sector of education systems might become better known, EURYDICE published in 1992 a descriptive study of its differing status and patterns of organization in each of the 12 countries of the European Community. The present study is an update of that previous publication.

According to "Eurydice for each of the 30 countries in the Eurydice Network, the database 'Teaching time in compulsory education' includes the number of hours a year devoted to the teaching of 13 different subjects for each grade in primary and secondary full-time compulsory education mainly in public-sector schools.

Use module 2 if you want to obtain:
• an international comparison of the number of hours devoted to the teaching of a subject or set of subjects is for a particular grade;

This series describes very briefly the education systems in each of 31 countries, from pre-primary level to higher education. Regularly updated, it also provides information on ongoing reforms and debate in the field of education.
