INTRODUCTION
The national descriptions contain detailed information on the teaching of foreign languages in the countries participating in the Eurydice network. They supplement the Eurydice Study "Foreign Language Teaching in Schools in Europe" and the Eurydice Focus "The Position of Foreign Languages in European Education Systems" (1999/2000). Each country has adopted the same basic structure for its national description which comprises the following main headings:
- National linguistic context
- Historic overview
- Organisation of teaching
- Curriculum content
